Luther: The Fallen Sun, seeing this title at first you would think it is a documentary movie about Martin Luther King. I mean the title fits just right and that's what I thought but instead I was thrown in one hell of a loop of suspense sauced with a good old-fashioned serial killing by a psychotic individual.
Luther in both the movie and the man DCI John Luther (played by Idris Elba) the cop with a score to settle against the killer does almost everything different from the normal we are used to taking a reference from Murder at the Orient Express and even the all too known Sherlock Holmes in that it shows you the killer upfront without looking to hide his identity till the awful last minute when connections are being put in place and you have a character with little moral standards on how he catches the bad guys.
David Robey (Wealthy trader and serial killer)
You would tend to enjoy the movie on two scales, the actions and life of both the serial killer and DCI John Luther who showed a very natural act of what a fall from grace for a police officer feels like (possibly where the name stems from) after his career gets ruined and he gets thrown behind bars, all planned by our serial killer and the plans to escape prison and nab the killer once and for all. Not that he cared what happened to him afterward but it all worked out in the end.
DCI John Luther
But this all wouldn't put you at the edge of your chair without a blend of a character out to get both men; the serial killer and Luther in the lady of DCI Odette Raine treating both men the same and wouldn't hesitate to bring them down with her chase only taking a change of heart and teaming up with the latter after a nice plot twist.
DCI Odette Raine
And I mean the entire cyber hacking and victim profiling is just amazing at the secrets everyone tries to hide and would do almost anything to keep it a secret. Personally, the blend of drama and suspense summarizes this movie in four words, "Demanding, Natural, Mad Actions" which makes me rank it 8.5/10.
Put on your seat belts and enjoy the suspension ride from the very first minute. How far would you go to keep your secrets?
